    System PulseMeter Agents

    Agents Basics

System PulseMeter uses agents for monitoring and actions performing on remote hosts on the network.

Such actions like restarting services, running applications, playing sound notifications, etc can be performed on remote hosts only by agents. For agentless network monitoring try using SNMP tests.

An agent is a small program that can work as a service or as an application. Agents are being started at target hosts and listen to a certain port (7171 by default) for commands from the System PulseMeter Core. When a command is received, Agent performs it and sends the result back to the Core. Agents can be password protected to avoid usage by a third-party software. All the essential data transferred between the Core and Agent are TrippleDES encrypted.

    Agent Installation

Agent installation package is located at Program Folder\Agent\spmasetup.exe . To install an Agent at a certain host please copy spmasetup.exe to the host and run it as Administrator (Rights click spmasetup.exe, select "Run As..." and enter System Administrator credentials). Follow the installation wizard steps and select if you want to install Agent as service.

    Configuration

To view System PulseMeter agent configuration dialog, perform the following actions:

    • Service: In case if the agent was installed as a service, stop System PulseMeter Agent  service. Open Agent folder and start spma.exe with /conf parameter.
    • Application: In case if the agent was installed as an application, double-click System PulseMeter Agent icon in the system tray.

The following "System PulseMeter Agent Configuration" dialog will appear.

    Registering Agent at the Core
