    System PulseMeter ICMP(ping) Test


    ICMP(ping) Test

    Use the ICMP ping test for checking if a certain host is reachable across the local network or Internet. With the ICMP test you can easily check whether your devices are functioning and accepting active connections.

    ICMP test allows to monitor network devices, including servers, switches, routers, printers, etc. Administrators can also use ICMP test for monitoring if hosts containing websites are online.

    The ICMP ping test checks availability of remote hosts and network devices by sending ICMP packets and listening for the replies from devices.

    Use networking ICMP ping tests and prevent data and costs loss from servers and hosts shut down. Stay notified when devices connected to the network are unavailable with the help of various actions and notifications.

    ICMP(ping) Test Properties

    "Basic" ICMP ping test properties can be set in the "Test Properties" dialog.

    Specific ping test properties include:

    • "Host" - target host name or IP address.
    • "Timeout" - adjust this value to change timeout of the ping test. Default ICMP ping test timeout is set to 2.000 milliseconds.
    • "Number of packets to send" - the number of packets to be sent by the ICMP test. Default number of packets to be sent while performing the ping test is set to 4. Recommended number of packets to be sent is greater than 1.
    • "Packet size" - default packet size sent while performing the ping test is set to 32 KB. 
    • "Test fail threshold" - default ICMP ping test fail threshold is set to 75%. This means the ping test will be considered as failed in case if less than 75% of packets return.
