System PulseMeter Network
Scanner
Network Scanner

"Network Scanner" dialog can be opened by clicking the corresponding menu
button at the "Network Diagram" program tab.
Network scanner is used for automated search of new devices in accessible
networks and forming a network diagram.
Note: In case if a node for a
device was previously added to the network map, network scanner will not display
the node in "New nodes" result list after search is repeated.
Scan Options
Scan options are used to select what methods will be used by System
PulseMeter during the network scanning. Some devices and links between
them can not be detected without
using specific scanning methods.
- Use ARP - set whether SPM should use ARP protocol during scanning IP
address ranges. By default, using this protocol is enabled.
- Use ICMP - set whether SPM should use ICMP/ping during scanning IP
address ranges.
- Use SNMP - set whether SPM should use SNMP during scanning IP address
ranges. Important: this feature
should be enabled to obtain network topology from SNMP managed
switches/hubs. In case if this feature is disabled, System PulseMeter won't
be able to detect links between network nodes.
- SNMP Profile - by default, "Public (default)"
SNMP profile is selected.
Host names resolution
- Do not resolve host names - select this option not to resolve host names
during scanning.
- Get NETBIOS names - use NETBIOS names as host names.
- Get DNS names - use DNS names as host names.
Networks
The "Networks" control contains a list of all networks detected from the host
with the program core installed.
- Network name - the name of the detected network.
- Interface - the name of the network interface used to connect to the
network.
- IP Address - the IP address of the host in the network.
- From address - network scanning will be performed starting with inputted
IP address. Click at the network in "Available networks" list to
automatically fill the IP address value.
- To address - network scanning will be performed up to reaching the
inputted IP address. Click at the network in "Available networks" list to
automatically fill the value.
- Add range - "Add range" button is used for adding the selected range to
the "Address ranges to scan" list.
Note: You can select to scan
several networks at one time by clicking them in the "Available networks"
control and adding them with "Add range" button.
Address Ranges to Scan
"Address ranges to Scan" list contains the list of networks and IP address
ranges that will be scanned by System PulseMeter.
Ranges can be deleted by selecting them in the list and clicking the "Delete
range" button.
Scanning
After all ranges added, to start scanning click the "Start scan" button. A
dialog page with "Available nodes" list will be displayed.
- New nodes - the list of new nodes detected during the scan. Note that if
a node was already added to the network map, it won't appear in the "New
nodes" list.
- Use IP address to uniquely identify the node - check this option to use
IP address as the "Node UID" .
- Use host name to uniquely identify the node - select this option to use
host names for "Node UID" .
- Cut off DNS suffix - check this option to cut off DNS suffix from nodes
names, for more convenient viewing.
- Stop scan - click this button to stop network scanning.
- Import - click the "Import" button to import detected devices into
System PulseMeter and view them at the "Network Diagram" program tab.
- Re-scan - After scanning is finished, the "Stop scan" button is replaced
by "Re-scan" button. You can start over the scan by clicking the "Re-scan"
button and changing the scan settings.
